I know, I know.

You love taking hot showers.

It feels good. It’s relaxing. It washes away the stress.

And, after a long day full of responsibilities, it can be just the right thing that turns your day around and makes it a whole lot better.

I get it.

I feel the same way.

But you want to know something interesting? The only benefit of taking a hot shower is that it feels good. Other than that, hot showers do nothing for you.

This is why I’ve completely stopped taking hot showers and I’ve started taking cold showers instead.

I have bad news for you:

No matter who you are, whether you’re Elon Musk, Oprah Winfrey, or the late Steve Jobs, you only have 24 hours in a day. And if you sleep for about 8 hours every night (which you should!), then you actually only have 16 hours in a day.

Converted into minutes, this mean you only have about 1,000 minutes a day to spend however you like. That’s it. Just 1,000 minutes.

And I don’t mean only in the privacy of my own home. Instead, I talk to myself when I’m exercising, when I’m playing a game of chess, and when I’m writing articles like this one. And no, I’m not crazy!

Somebody once asked Warren Buffett about his secret to success. Buffett simply pointed to a stack of books and said:

“Read 500 pages like this every day. That’s how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will.”

Early in his career, Buffett would actually read 800 pages a day, not 500. Even now, he still reads for about 8 hours a day.
